How to achieve a beautiful eyebrow

by Beauty Ninja on September 10, 2009

Believe it or not, your eyebrows are one of the most important features of your face.  They frame your eyes and can be styled to create dramatically different effects.  Take, for example, Angelina Jolie’s differing brow-styles in the following images.

In this first image from her early modeling career, her brows were overplucked and a bit on the thin side.  They also look overly-drawn on with an unsteady hand:

Back in her gothic/Billy Bob days she sported this look, which I have to say is way too dark, overpowering, and only good if you’re going for a Frida Kahlo look, although I can appreciate it as an “eccentric” beauty statement:

I have to say that I think Angie has really grown into a beautiful natural look for her brows- she now sports a more natural color and natural but refined shape:

If it takes Angelina Jolie a few years to master her eyebrow technique, I’m betting we all could use a little help too.  I have very light brows and like to pencil them in (in slightly varying shapes) to create different looks.  I’d often seen eyebrow stencils in beauty stores, but always thought it’d be impossible for them to look good. I was wrong.

I finally broke down and bought an Ardell stencil kit that included four shapes: “Elegant” (my current fave), “Classic”,  “Innocent”, and “Glamour”.  The trick here is applying eyebrow powder with a light hand and a fluffy brush.  If you have light eyebrows you can simply stencil the shape over them, but for a darker brow you can place the stencil over your brown, follow the outline with a white eyeliner pencil, then remove the stencil and tweeze all hairs that fall outside the line.

It might take a few tries to master the tool, but if you’re in search of polished looking brows without the expensive salon tag, give these stencils a shot!
