megan-fox

This is not a post trying to kick Meghan Fox down a notch- it’s more about boosting every other woman on the planet’s self esteem. Even the prettiest Hollywood “IT” girls weren’t or aren’t always goddesses of beauty perfection. Exhibit A: Meghan Fox in 2004 where she’s definitely a cutie but not quite the bad ass we see today:

Ms Fox’s transformation over the years demonstrates what Allure’s beauty editor dubs a “Less is More” example. And it’s true- less eyeshadow, less curling of the hair, less torturing of the eyebrows with tweezers. BUT… she also lost her baby fat, got veneers, hair extensions, eyelash extensions (every two weeks) and a nose job. Less makeup… but more plastic surgery. It’s obvious (and well done and pretty).  I also noticed she almost NEVER smiles widely in photographs, but I happened to hunt down this one, voila:

Hmm, she looks so much more approachable with that smile :)   But anyways, my point is unless you can afford $200 eyelash extensions twice a month and to have your makeup air-brushed on by a pro every time you step out the door give yourself a break!  And do take a page from Megan’s beauty transformation in remembering that less gunk on your face (but still including just the right amount of great gunk like this, this or this hee hee hee) almost always results in a prettier effect.

If you can put the ugliness of vanity aside, dressing up is self-expression in its purest form.”

- Michelle Williams in British Vogue’s April Issue (last year?)

Let’s talk about something that I’m sure is one of those fashion novelties… here today, gone tomorrow until 20 years from now when it’s cool again. But today I think it is way cool…. Cape Dresses!

The cape dress above is from Tandem.  I love the color and the way it is attached at the bottom.  I think I’m so enthusiastic about this dress style because its just so different from anything I’ve ever owned… a new shape… and it is romantic…. like this LBD:

Before you star making Batgirl jokes, I just wanna say that I bet that LBD by Gold Hawk from The Violet Hour probably hangs beautifully and I like the sheer fabric.  Here you can see Versace’s cape dress statement available at Saks Fifth Ave:

I don’t have links where you can purchase this next gem or the designer it’s by , but I love the image for inspiration:

And last but not least, if you want a casual cape dress to lounge in that’s more day-time check out this Mono Cape Dress from Blackbird:

Apparently teal is a very IT color for Fall 2009.  Can you believe these scrumptious pumps are only $79 from Nine West?!

Pantone released their interpretation of autumn/fall 2008 color trends and it looks like this:

Teal, Majolica Blue, same diff.  This is nice:

il_430xN.92907482Maybe a bit too springish?

But if I were going to splurge, i’d really love this Alexis Bittar Ring, omg:

I know most of are aware that Baking Soda can be used for almost everything… from scrubbing your kitchen to brushing your teeth, curing your heartburn and deodorizing your freezer.  But did you know it makes an awesome facial exfoliant?

You can simply wet your face and apply the baking soda, rubbing in gentle circular motions (be careful around the delicate eye area).  The soda helps to dry up excess oil while rubbing away dead skin cells.

I’m enjoying using baking soda more than my brand name exfoliating face washes because the granules are much smaller and stronger- my face actually looks polished once I’ve rinsed it with water.

SPECIAL TIP:  You can mix a little baking soda with some jojoba oil and rub your face in small circular motions to REALLY effectively loosen up and removed the oil in clogged pores, hydrate and exfoliate your skin.  Jojoba oil is very special and is extremely similar to the natural sebum that your skin produces.  For this reason it won’t clog your pores, but can actually help to dissolve the oily buildup in them… think about it…. when you wash your face with water, water and oil don’t mix!  Any cleansing comes from the friction of washing your face and whatever soap/cleanser you are using.  If you use jojoba oil instead of water and give your skin a good rub, the oil helps to dissolve and loosen the oils and dead skin cells on your skin, truly cleansing it and helping restore its moisture balance.
